Trivia Questions, They Never Get Old

Type: Virtual

Time: 10-15 minutes

Trivia Questions are a traditional way to break the ice. They can quickly be answered by anyone, so even people with no knowledge of the game can join and participate. For example, when asked a question like “Who wrote the Harry Potter series?” everyone in the room would instantly give the correct answer. To avoid any confusion, you could use a specific color pen and ask each participant to write down the answer before answering any question.

Online Office Quiz Games

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

You can team up in pairs or individually to play online-based quiz games. Several websites offer free online quizzes, or you can create your own! You just have to be creative in searching for them. Perhaps who finished the report fastest?

The Classic Word Search

Type: Virtual, hybrid

Time: 10-30 minutes

I’d say nothing beats the classic word search. This fun activity tests your vocabulary and knowledge level at once and is enjoyable! The first person, or person A, starts with a blank board. Person A draws a random letter combination on the board and must find out its meaning. After doing that, person A marks the corresponding letters on the board. Here again, the second person, person B, tries their luck with a new word. It continues like this until someone finds the right word. In case both fail, then the winner becomes the next challenger.

Crazy Crossword Puzzle

Type: Virtual

Time: 20-30 minutes

If you are already familiar with crossword puzzles, adding an online version of it will be pretty straightforward. Most likely, you already enjoy crosswords in newspapers or magazines. So why not turn this into a real-world experience? You can use words that drove you or your team crazy this year. The more creative the words are, the crazier and more fun this will get.

The Missing Mickey

Type: Virtual

Time: 10-15 minutes

Have you heard about The Missing Mickey? Well, this game involves locating items among other items. It’s like a typical hidden object puzzle game. The things have certain features that are recognizable from a distance— you can use a certain object that is mostly used in the office, the office logo, or your boss’ hat. Give out clues to help your teammate identify them. Then you need to locate this item among other distracting ones. Say, find your favorite pen among a pile of papers and a messy desk? So this requires not only critical thinking but also quick decision-making.

The Ultimate Hangman Game

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

It may sound creepy, but this one will make you wrack your brains, which is what makes it fun! The hangman game usually consists of a sentence typed by a user. Another player guesses the missing letters using dashes’-‘. Once they get it right, they remove the guessed characters from the remaining string of letters in the sentence. If there are no spaces left, then the hanged man appears instead. The first person to finish guessing correctly wins the game.

Animal Anagrams

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

Animal anagrams test your spelling skills combined with your knowledge about different animals. Every animal mentioned comes along with four words which get changed into another form by rearranging the letters. You may also use the names of your team members as anagrams. See who really knows who’s name aside from your boss. The task is to guess what those altered words will spell.

Letter Scramble

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

Scrabble is probably one of the most popular word games ever invented. Though Scrabble doesn’t demand much from you regarding your vocabulary, the way you play the game still decides the outcome. Since you will play virtually, you can search for online Scrabble to start the game. Like any other game of skill, the first person begins by creating random tiles. Each tile contains a random set of letters. Now player arranges the tiles randomly on the board to fit together to make complete words. A single move could create a brand new word. The first person to get five points wins.

Jigsaw Faces Puzzle

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

Jigsaw puzzles offer numerous possibilities. We know that you have already played this before,… who hasn’t? Create an online jigsaw puzzle using either Paint or Photoshop. What’s even more exciting? Have a jigsaw puzzle with each team member’s picture and see who remembers whose faces during meetings.

Riding in Riddles

Type: Virtual

Time: 15-20 minutes

Riddles are perhaps one of the oldest types of brain teaser games. They were invented long ago and have evolved over the years. In their most simple form, riddles ask questions about specific objects, places, situations, people, concepts, etc. A person has to apply logic and reasoning to figure out the answer to solve them. Here’s a good example: “I’m black as night, but I am pale as death. Who am I?” You can create your riddle among your team members and see how much fun this is.

These are great ways to add extra flavor to your first meetings in 2022! Now go ahead and try some of them! Happy New Year! 🙂
