5 Simple ways to boost morale in the workplace

August 27, 2021

Here’s something that you probably don’t know: You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make a difference in your workplace. Whether you’re working virtually or in your office, there are many fun and easy things to do to boost morale in your workplace environment.

You can have an activity during a meeting that allows the team to take a few minutes to bond and focus on something other than work. It can help ease relationships and trust with their coworkers that they don’t otherwise have the opportunity to see each other face-to-face.

In this time of the pandemic, it has been a challenge to collaborate and form bonds. So, how do we make sure that our teams are still as strong? How can we keep them engaged and motivated during these times?

Well, there are five ways to boost morale in the workplace. And I’m going to share it with you right now.

Keep it short!

Make sure you have a clear goal. If your group is going to be working on something, make sure that everyone knows what the result will look like. This way, if someone gets stuck or has questions about how they should approach their task, there’s no confusion about where things are headed.

Have a plan of action. Make sure each person in your group precisely understands what needs to happen next so that nothing falls through the cracks.

Make it interactive!

Have a game or activity that you can play together. It will help to get the group talking, laughing, and having some fun. It’s also good if prizes are involved as this helps people feel more motivated to participate in the activities.

Get creative with your ideas!

Don’t be afraid of trying something new – even if it’s not what everyone else has planned. Don’t have anything in mind yet? You may want to try this.

Have some physical activity involved!

If you’re going to have a meeting, make sure it’s in the morning or afternoon. If possible, try not to schedule meetings at night when people are tired from work.

Make sure that everyone has something to do during your meeting. It can include things like:

  • having someone read out loud
  • playing games with each other
  • doing puzzles together
  • drawing pictures/sketches

Don’t forget to reward good work!

How do you motivate your employees? Do they feel appreciated, or are they just doing their job because it’s the right thing to do? If you want them to be motivated, then make sure that you give them a reason why. You can also use this as part of your annual performance review process. It will help you get more out of each employee by ensuring that everyone is working towards the same goals.

Give feedback regularly

It may seem obvious but giving regular feedback to your staff members is essential. Not only does it show that you care about their well-being, but it gives them a chance to improve themselves. They know that you’re watching over them, which makes them feel valued. You can show them either positive or negative feedback. Positive feedback is more like praise wherein they can continue doing what they’re doing, while negative feedback can be something that they can improve on.

They say happy people are productive people. And, you don’t necessarily have to spend a ton of money to have fun. With your current set-up, you can still find ways to form camaraderie in simple ways.

Just be creative. 😊
