Overcoming the hardest obstacles ever
Welcome to the last part of the three-part blog post, The Ultimate Guide to Workplace Team Building.
In the first part, we shared with you the benefits of having workplace team building. Then we followed up with a post about how team building can significantly improve workplace communication.
Now let’s see how workplace team building can help overcome the most challenging obstacles in an office environment.
Workplace team building is a process that helps teams build internal trust and overcome their challenges. It also improves productivity by increasing employee engagement and morale.
Let’s discuss some of the most common issues and ways to tackle them effectively. Let’s get started!
1. Productivity
Productivity refers to the amount of output produced per unit of time or effort expended.
It‘s a measure of how much work you can get done within a certain period of time. It’s also known as efficiency and effectiveness. So what does this mean for your business?
Well, if you’re not getting more out of each employee than you put into them, then you need to improve their productivity. And you can do this through team building!
Team building is about creating an environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas and working together towards common goals.
This improves communication between employees which leads to better teamwork and higher levels of productivity.
2. Communication
Communication is another key factor when trying to increase workplace productivity.
If there are problems within the office, these issues will only be exacerbated by poor communication.
Research has shown that up to 80% of errors can be avoided with effective communication.
So how do you get your team communicating effectively? Well, we have discussed this in our previous blog post. Feel free to read it here.
3. Motivation
Motivation is “the degree to which someone feels like doing something.”
When people don’t feel motivated, they won’t perform well. And when they aren’t performing well, they’ll eventually leave.
But why would anyone want to leave their job anyway?
Most jobs offer little opportunity for personal growth.
That’s right; very few employers provide opportunities for career development.
As a result, workers often find themselves stuck in dead-end positions, without real advancement prospects.
But motivation doesn’t come from external factors. You must motivate yourself too.
It would help to strive to make sure that you, yourself, are happy at work because happiness is contagious. If you are unhappy at work, the chances are that those around you will notice.
These are some workplace issues that most of us may have experienced.
Now, some people may call this a problem, but we call it a solution.
Here are some problem-solving activities which you can do at your team building event.
A Shrinking Vessel
This activity helps with adaptability. To play, you’ll need a rope or a string.
Instructions:
1. Using the rope, make a shape on the floor everyone can fit into.
2. Slowly shrink the space over 10-15 minutes.
3. Work together to figure out how to keep everyone within the shrinking boundaries.
Then, have each person take turns standing in the new space and describe their experience.
People must move around during this exercise. They will be moving through the shrinking vessel.
Escape Room
Escape rooms are great ways to help teams bond while they try to escape from a locked room using only clues provided by the facilitator.
They’re filled with puzzles and challenges that need teamwork and communication skills.
There are two types of escape rooms: physical and virtual. Physical ones involve going outside and finding items like keys, codes, etc. Virtual ones allow you to go online and search for things instead.
Here’s an example of how it works:
Team A is given a clue.
Then, they must find all the objects needed to complete this task before time runs out. If they do not finish within the allotted amount of time, then they lose points.
Once everyone finishes, they check all the objects and see if anyone missed an item. Then, whoever gets the most objects wins!
This activity is fun. It forces people to communicate to solve problems together as a team. This makes it easier for others to support someone when they feel down or stressed.
Conclusion
Team building helps build relationships and improve the atmosphere in the workplace.
All in all, it’s worth doing even though it takes more effort than usual.
